国内でイヌワシの生息地の環境回復を目的したプロジェクトは、宮城県、群馬県、長野県、滋賀県、兵庫県と５箇所で行われています。このうち宮城県内で実施されている南三陸イヌワシ野生復帰プロジェクトについて、最近の取組を紹介します。
東近江市に再びイヌワシを呼び戻すプロジェクト協議会は南三陸イヌワシ野生復帰プロジェクトの一員として、第一回イヌワシの放鳥に関わっています。
このプロジェクトは動物園で産まれたイヌワシのヒナを現地で人工育雛して自ら野外に飛び立たせるプロジェクトです。
日本で初めての取り組みとして環境省や林野庁、地元自治体、動物園など多くの機関や支援していただいている多くの方々の協力を得ながら取り組んでいます。
写真は、放鳥するイヌワシの幼鳥に個体識別用のマーカーと、現在どこにいるかを把握するためにGPS発信器を取り付けた時の様子です。

There are currently five projects in Japan dedicated to restoring habitat for the Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos japonica), located in Miyagi, Gunma, Nagano, Shiga, and Hyogo Prefectures. In this article, we would like to introduce the latest updates from the Minamisanriku Golden Eagle Rewilding Project, which is being carried out in Miyagi Prefecture.
The Project Council to Bring Golden Eagles Back to Higashiomi City is participating as one of the project partners and has been involved in the first release of a Golden Eagle into the wild.
This project aims to raise Golden Eagle chicks hatched in zoos through a carefully managed hand-rearing program at the release site, allowing them to fledge and begin living independently in the wild.
As the first initiative of its kind in Japan, the project is being carried out with the cooperation of the Ministry of the Environment, the Forestry Agency, local governments, zoos, and many supporters who have contributed to making this ambitious conservation effort possible.
The photograph shows a juvenile Golden Eagle being fitted with an identification marker and a GPS transmitter before its release. The identification marker enables researchers to identify the individual bird, while the GPS transmitter allows them to monitor its movements and track its location after release.
